University Writing Program

“At the University of Denver, we work alongside, and are supported by, talented Writing faculty in our University Writing Program. According to their website, their mission is to promote “ … an understanding of writing as a complex set of rhetorical, multi-modal, and multilingual concepts and practices. We facilitate engagement with diverse audiences, genres, epistemologies, and research methods to support ethical, accessible, and culturally sustaining communication in academic, professional, public, and personal contexts.”

Generative AI (GenAI) at University of Denver

  • The short answer is no, but there have been efforts to help guide faculty around policy development in their courses. Here is the OTL’s webpage on AI and here is a faculty feature on Dr. Richard Colby, from the Writing Program, on how he uses AI in the classroom.

  • To date, there is not a universal standard on how faculty should respond to cases of non-approved GenAI use, but if you would like institutional support, you can contact Student Rights & Responsibilities.

  • The Office of Teaching & Learning (OTL) supports Faculty Learning Communities, and has hosted AI-related communities in the past. Please check out their website for future opportunities!

  • GenAI is here to stay, and it is important that we all develop our own relationship to it and our pedagogy. To explore GenAI in your classroom, you can reach out to OTL and book an teaching consultation.
